1.If you make a website everyone will be able to see it!
Be sure that you really want to share the information you have on-line
2.. Keep it Clean and Legal. Read our Terms
of Service Also if you link to your favourite sites, think about what
you are linking to - are those sites legal?
3. Be careful where you place your details. Think
carefully before placing your name, address, phone number and email address
on your Geocities site. If you want to add your email address to collect
responses why not use an 'add-on'. An 'add-on' enables you to create a form, which keeps your email address
a little more hidden - plus you'll get responses in the format you want.
You can also collect peoples' opinions on your site using a guest book,
which you might otherwise have relied on email to collect for you.
4. Think about your user. Most users have 56k modems and 800x600
screens so build your pages to look good at that resolution, and ensure
they download in a reasonable time. Try checking your website from other
computers or PDAs'. If it takes too long trim it down. Lose unnecessary graphics
and ensure all images are optimised using Adobe Photoshop or a similar
program.
5. Ensure relevant ads are served. By going to Geocities preferences
you can select a category for your site to ensure your users see suitable
ads.
6. Add the latest news headlines. to your web
site so that your users have dynamically updating content. More...
7. Add counters to your page. Counters are
a great way to show how many times your web pages have been viewed. More...
8. Track your stats. Find out how popular all
your pages are. More...
9. Suggest your site to Yahoo! Once you have
finished building your site send to Yahoo! and we may add it to our directory.
