| Yahoo! Teams up with D2 Mannesman Mobilfunk to Make Yahoo! Services Available to German Mobile Phone Users |
|
Subscribers with a WAP-enabled mobile phone will have quick and easy on-screen access to Yahoo! Germany's Web programming wherever they are. The Yahoo!(r) services are provided free-of-charge to D2's seven million mobile telephony subscriber base users simply pay for a call. This agreement marks the first of Yahoo! Europe's local ventures onto new delivery platforms outside of PCs. As a first stage in the development of services, Yahoo! Germany will offer the following services in WML (Wireless Markup Language) Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Sports and Yahoo! Weather. By using My Yahoo!, Yahoo!'s personalisation service, information will be customisable to individual preferences so that personally relevant information is delivered to the phone. The Yahoo! services will be demonstrated for the first time at the end of August at the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) in Berlin, Germany's biggest consumer-show on the latest development in telecommunication and electronic media. Yahoo! and D2 will be co-operating on further co-branded marketing activities as part of the agreement. Fabiola Arredondo, managing director of Yahoo! Europe said: "Yahoo! continues to expand its Yahoo! Everywhere(tm) strategy of distributing Yahoo! services through a range of PC, access, device and communication providers. We're delighted to work with D2 to help users access relevant information and connect with others around the world without being tied to a home or office PC." Friedrich P. Joussen, CEO Marketing at Mannesmann Mobilfunk explained the D2 strategy: "Through our new D2-WAP service, we are giving mobile access to the Internet. With this agreement, we are moving forward on our aim to provide users with broad and qualified content as well as personalised services such as e-mail. We always seek to team up with well-known and able companies, and are glad to have Yahoo!, the leading Internet-brand, aboard." Last month Yahoo!
