Access Yahoo! UK & Ireland Favourites via Mobile Phone London, 27th March, 2000 - Yahoo! UK & Ireland today announces the launch of its mobile Internet content service. This will make it possible for users to access content from Yahoo! UK & Ireland on a WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) enabled mobile phone or device. UK & Ireland's mobile content service will enable users to get quick and easy access to Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Sports and Yahoo! Weather. The service is accessible from a WAP enabled mobile phone and offers users their favourite Yahoo! UK & Ireland services in an easy to use format. This means users will be able to send and receive e-mails, get the latest information such as stock prices, news headlines and sports results, wherever they happen to be. The service is complimented by the launch of Yahoo! Mobile (http://uk.mobile.yahoo.com) which is a comprehensive directory giving up-to-date news and features on mobile technology along with a list of global WAP sites. Access to the service is simple - add http://wap.yahoo.co.uk as a bookmark on your WAP mobile phone and then chose an option from the list of available services. Users just pay their mobile service provider for the call. Industry predictions estimate that within five years up to 50% of all global Internet access may be from mobile devices from over a billion phones. Yahoo! is therefore dedicated to both developing and promoting an innovative range of services to ensure its users benefit from new applications and methods in Internet access. Martina King, Managing Director of Yahoo! UK & Ireland, commented: "This is a very exciting development for Yahoo! UK & Ireland and an important milestone in our Yahoo! Everywhere strategy. For the first time ever, Yahoo! favourites can be accessed directly from a WAP mobile phone and users will be able to keep up to date with the latest news about mobile technology by looking at our Yahoo! Mobile site. It is great news that Yahoo! UK & Ireland users will now be able to access Yahoo! services wherever they happen to be."
