Yahoo! UK & Ireland and the Press Association
make headlines

Yahoo! UK & Ireland and Press Association are to make headlines this week (June 18) when Yahoo! introduces UK specific news to its service (www.yahoo.co.uk).

As part of Yahoo!'s ongoing commitment to providing the highest level of country-specific information, Yahoo! UK & Ireland and the Press Association have combined to provide constantly updated news, sport, entertainment and business headlines and stories.

Yahoo! UK & Ireland Producer, Ralph Averbuch, commented: "We believe this will provide more extensive coverage of nationally topical news. Working with the Press Association creates a content partnership between two organisations dedicated to providing the quickest and most informative news service in the UK. It will be a great complement to our existing international news service."

Properties within the Yahoo! Network are already popular sources of news and other information. Earlier this year, Yahoo! Finance (quote.yahoo.com) and Yahoo! News (www.yahoo.com/headlines) were ranked the most widely used source of information on the Web in their categories by PC Meter.

Traffic across the Yahoo! Network of properties reached a new milestone in April with more than one billion page views for the month. A page view is defined as one electronic page of information displayed in response to a user's request. The Yahoo! Network includes the main Yahoo! site (http://www.yahoo.com) and Yahoo!'s expanding geographic, demographic and shared-interest sites. At the end of the first quarter 1997, Yahoo! announced its traffic had increased 50 percent to an average of 30 million page views per day in March 1997 from 20 million page views per day average reported in December 1996.

According to PC meter results for May 1997, yahoo.com is the single largest guide to the Web in terms of U.S Household reach and has consistently ranked No 1 since PC Meter began publishing results in January 1996.

Yahoo!s three European sites in the UK & Ireland, France and Germany were launched in September and October of 1996. In April, Yahoo! announced that combined traffic on the three sites averaged more than 1 million page views per day. The three sites (www.yahoo.co.uk, www.yahoo.co.de, and www.co.fr), offer users local language guides to the Internet, and other services including news, weather and email directories.
