Predict the Oscars with Yahoo! UK & Ireland's Oscar Pick'em game
Create your own Oscars game in the run up to awards night

LONDON, March 21, 2000 - As speculation increases in the run-up to the biggest night in show business, Yahoo! UK & Ireland (http://yahoo.co.uk) is providing several ways for fans to take part in the Academy Awards experience. The Yahoo! Oscar Pick'em game provides users the opportunity to predict the winners of this year's Oscars, and then enter their choices in competition against friends, family, colleagues, and other Yahoo! users. Yahoo! will also provide Oscar news and resources from the best news and entertainment sources on the Web.

"For those fascinated by the world of Hollywood, the Yahoo! Oscar Pick'em game is a dream come true," said Lloyd Shepherd, senior producer at Yahoo! UK & Ireland. "You create your own game on Yahoo! and build your own community around it with friends and colleagues. The game then calculates final scores and user rankings for all to see."

Guess the winner

It has never been easier, or more fun, to predict the winners of the Academy Awards. To assist users in making their selections, Yahoo! Movies Oscar Pick'em provides links to key research materials, including movie synopses, cast and crew bios, critics reviews, production notes, and video trailers and clips.

For those who seek a little competition, users can enter their picks in an existing public or private group, or create their own private group and invite friends, relatives, or co-workers to join that group. Picks and groups may be created up until 30 minutes before the Academy Awards, which begin at 1am GMT Monday, March 27 (8 p.m. New York Time on Sunday, March 26). Scores and group ranks will be posted at the end of the day on Monday.

In addition to the Pick'em game, Yahoo! will provide Web users with daily news and information relevant to the Oscars from the best content providers on the Web. Yahoo! UK & Ireland users can also access all the services of yahoo.com in the US including Yahoo! Movies.

Lights, Camera, Auction

For die-hard film fans, Yahoo! Auctions (http://auctions.yahoo.co.uk) offers a full line-up of movie items, including, for example, a CD soundtrack signed by Michael Caine from The Cider House Rules. The Cider House Rules, opening in the UK on 24 March, is one of this year's big hopefuls, being nominated for Best Film and Best Supporting Actor (Michael Caine). Proceeds from the auction of the CD will be given to the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children).
