Scoot™ Around With Yahoo! To Find UK Business Services Quickly and Easily On The Internet

LONDON, January 12, 1998 -- If you need to find a local health club for that New Year’s resolution or a local roofer after the recent storms then look no further than Yahoo!, the world’s leading Internet media company, to find the answers to your questions quickly and easily. In a strategic partnership with Scoot (UK), a subsidiary of the Freepages Group, Yahoo! users will have direct access to the Scoot database of over 2 million UK businesses.

Uniquely, Yahoo! has developed with Scoot this service http://scoot.yahoo.co.uk/ to give Yahoo! users the familiar hierarchical interface known by millions around the world. To find a local service, Yahoo! users simply need to click on one of the main categories or alternatively, enter the business type and location - and the search results quickly return with relevant business, contact details which are closest to the post code.

Speaking about the new service, Heather Killen, Managing Director of European Operations for Yahoo!, said: "At Yahoo! we are well aware that one of the key attractions of the Internet is its ability to put potential buyers in touch with suppliers. Scoot is an exciting new branded service that offers unique classification and search methodologies that greatly simplify this process. We are delighted to be able to offer our users access to this service."

Robert Bonnier, Chief Executive Officer of Scoot, added: "Yahoo! is clearly established as one of the leading Internet brands and has unparalleled expertise at packaging and distributing services in a user-friendly way. Through this agreement Scoot will gain access to this distribution skill whilst giving Yahoo! users access to a powerful decision-making tool. We look forward to a fruitful relationship."

This strategic partnership with Scoot (UK) is the latest in a series of content announcements for Yahoo. Yahoo! is continuing to grow into global markets, reaching broad demographic, shared-interest and geographic audiences around the world. Q4 in 1997 saw the launch of Yahoo! Football, Yahoo! Finance, media sponsorship of the London Film Festival and the successful launch of localised services in Scandinavia.
