Size does matter! Yahoo! Europe rolls out new ad formats

London – Mar. 23, 2001. - Yahoo! Europe today announced that it is offering new advertising formats, the ‘Skyscraper’ and the ‘Rectangle’, as part of its online marketing offer in Europe.

The ‘Skyscraper’ is a tall, narrow advertisement that runs vertically along the edge of a Web page, spec: h600xw120, and the ‘Rectangle’ is a large banner-shaped advertisement available vertically spec: w300xh250 (see attached creatives).

This follows recent developments proposed by the US-based Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) that many European advertising networks are now considering. The ads will be more prominent than traditional banners, and enable advertisers to expand creativity and interactivity and engage the consumer.

‘This effort underscores Yahoo!’s commitment to offer innovative online advertising opportunities and be flexible and responsive to advertisers’ needs. It supports our overall goal of working closely with advertisers and advertising agencies to develop customised, measurable programmes focussing on return on investment and long-term business success.’ said Fru Hazlitt, Sales and Marketing Director, Yahoo! Europe, ‘We feel that in today’s challenging marketplace, these new ad formats will provide a major benefit to our clients and to the market as a whole.’

The new formats will complement the other advertising formats accepted by Yahoo!:

  • static banners
  • audio & video streaming banners
  • rich media
  • post-click pop ups
