BSkyB today announces the launch of two of the biggest global internet brands on Sky digital. Yahoo! UK & Ireland and Demon can now be accessed via the Sky Active service on Sky digital.
Providing access for Yahoo! UK and Ireland's 10.9 million unique UK users represents a significant extension of Sky digital's email capability.
Sky digital satellite viewers will easily be able to send and receive emails via Yahoo! UK and Ireland and Demon's email services just by pressing the red button on the Sky handset whilst watching a Sky channel or by pressing the interactive button for a full screen email service.
The launch of Yahoo! and Demon is just one example of Sky's continued commitment to enhancing an already flexible email service. Within the next 12 months Sky digital viewers can expect other features from the email service including email notification and the ability to send and receive email picture attachments.
Jim Rudder, Director of Interactive Programming for Sky Active said: "Both Yahoo! and Demon are trusted and credible brands among users and adds considerable weight to Sky's already successful emailing facility. Offering ESPs on Sky Active builds our interactive services while providing a gateway for people who have yet to experience the benefits of interactivity through the TV."
John Webb, Marketing Manager of Yahoo! UK & Ireland adds, "This relationship brings closer together Europe's leading digital TV company and the world's number one internet brand to create compelling new services for British consumers. Yahoo! Mail is one of the Web's most widely used e-mail services and a perfect complementary service for Sky Digital viewers. Now Yahoo! Mail customers will be able to check their e-mail from the comfort of their living room whilst not missing a moment of their favourite TV show. This new service furthers our mission to extend Yahoo! beyond the computer, and to provide access to Yahoo!'s essential services anytime and everywhere."
