LONDON - Mar. 6, 2001 - Yahoo! Europe rolls out its new European TV campaign from early March promoting Yahoo! as the best way to communicate. The creative is localised for five of Yahoo!'s eight local European sites plus Canada and Australia, airing first in the UK from March. The TV spot was created as a special project by Italian advertising and production agencies Orange Zero21 and Colorado Film Production, together with One Step Beyond, a South African production house. The creative adopts the Yahoo! traditional 'magic moment' TV spot style in an unmistakably European Alpine setting. The story is about two friends, both of them players of the Alphorn, they use the horns to communicate from one valley to another. One day one realises that he's not receiving response and, after a moments thought, as a solution he records himself while playing the horn with a video camera and sends the video clip as an attachment to his friend via Yahoo! Mail. Filming was done in South Africa to facilitate a European springtime look and feel. 'This TV campaign aims to grow usage of Yahoo! Mail and other communication products whilst reinforcing our brand equity with the user' said Giovanna D'Alessio, Marketing Manager, Yahoo! Europe. 'It's the first time a European creative has been used by Yahoo! outside Europe'. Yahoo! Mail typifies the core Yahoo! brand values of ease-of-use, fast and friendly. E-mail is a key driver for internet use in Europe, being the most used internet function with 79% of European Internet Users using email on a regular basis (Proactive Nov 00). Other communication tools such as Chat and Messenger services are used by 26% of the European Internet population. Yahoo! retains individual creative and media agencies across its eight European sites including HHCL and Optimedia in the UK & Ireland.
