Worldwide Picks: - USA - Aus/NZ - Canada - France - Germany - Spain - Italy - Norway - Sweden - Denmark - Brazil - Asia
We've had fun discovering those sites that make Yahoo! UK & Ireland one of the best places to find UK or Irish sites on the Internet, and we enjoy sharing a few of them with you. Feel free to send us a note about any sites you think we should consider for a future issue or any general thoughts and comments about Picks of the Week. Yoda trained as a Jedi for 800 years apparently, now we are privileged to have him casting his eye over this week's Picks...
"The Picks Team a very trying week they have had. Split 50/50 they are on the Star Wars question. Half of them without it cannot live, outdo each other they try in who knows the tedious facts most, like how many languages C3P0 fluent he is in, whilst the other half, throwing up they are at the mention of George Lucas. Their regular picks writer into the second category he falls, believing he does that the Force is merely a farce, so this week a 'guest' writer they have entering the Dark Side that is Picks of the Week. Nevertheless, their regular picks writer's presence can still be felt, for aiding and abetting he has his protegé been, rather like Darth Vader watching over his son, Luke Skywalker.
"So, love it or loathe it, escape it you cannot, and surely increasingly unnerved everyone is becoming by the fact that walk into a shop you cannot without an animatronic Darth Maul popping up and asking whether purchasing a new life insurance policy you've ever considered (jeez, where do you shop? - Ed). Keeping the peace, they do try. Chosen the most bizarre Star Wars web sites you could hope to see they have. After all, click on Yahoo!'s Star Wars category page you only need to do to see the normal ones...
"Begin with something not so unusual they do. How about mixing a character from a successful children's TV show of the 80's with the Phantom Menace? Voila! Mr T versus Darth Maul! "Pity the foo' who don't respect this site" you must.
"Swiftly on they move, encounter the Shaven Wookie Web Page they do next. Announce quite proud that it is a 'new standard in bizarre humour', disagree they do not wish to. In a universe that too often shows signs little of originality - The Shaven Wookie stands proud.
"At Yahoo! they have their own horoscopes online they do. Liked the look of Star Wars Astrology they did too, where a made up fictional world meets a Hollywood film - Boom! Boom! Main characters allocated a star sign they have been, based on - allegedly - how closely they match up to the characteristics major of each zodiac sign of. No surprise it may come as, that 'strong, stubborn Taureans' matched up with Chewbacca they should be, whilst Geminis disheartened will probably be to learn that they are classed as Ewoks - unarguably the least popular creature within the Star Wars universe.
"Site the next answers one of life's eternal questions - Is The Force With You? Online quiz you must take and confirm you should whether spending more time dressed in beige convincing errant Stormtroopers that 'These aren't the droids you're looking for' you will, or hanging around with a black helmet 'feeling a presence' (ooh matron! - Ed).
"Rounding things off - in spirit the same that the Grand Moff Tarkin rounded off the peaceful planet of Alderaan in Star Wars (Episode IV - a New Hope) - those who take it any more cannot, find solace they will in I Hate Star Wars. (That's more like it... - Ed)"
Cheers Yoda, service normal resumed next week will be. And forget not our Star Wars Competition.
