Picks of the Week: 4th March 2002
|
|
Welcome to Picks of the Week for the UK and Ireland! If you have a suggestion for a cool, useful, or quirky site you'd like to see included in a future edition, why not send us an email? |
Sculpture in Woodland
Sculpture in Woodland is an outdoor art exhibition set in the Devil's Glen Wood
at Ashford, Co Wicklow. There are two detailed routes you can follow (ranging from 30 minutes
to 2 hours), both lined with the work of contemporary Irish and international
sculptors. The site presents some great photo galleries and descriptions, as well as
detailed biographies
of the artists, but surely this can't compete with experiencing the art while walking
through the beautiful, natural surroundings yourself.

Snoozzzeee Dog
This company found something of a niche market a few years back with its innovative
dog bedding designs. A few plugs by famous people (Mrs Victoria Beckham, for one) and
a successful web site later, and Snoozzzeee Dog is now helping pooches doze all over
the world. The site is fun and bright, and is filling out significantly, but
while the business has grown, the personal touches are still there - we like Snoozzzeee
News and the Gallery section, where customers can send in pics of their happily
sleeping pets. Ahhh...

advertsongs
You know how infuriating it can be when you hear a cool tune on a TV advert, and you
have no clue who it's by, and how you can possibly find out??
Well, folks, be infuriated no more, because advertsongs is here to help. Just type
in the name of the commercial, and
the site will hopefully tell you what you want to know. If not, you can place a
request, and other users can submit their answers, so you'll be helping
to build out the database at the same time. It's that simple.

Clinton Cards
Have all of you remembered that it's Mother's Day this coming Sunday? If, like us
organised Picks Central types, you already have the
flowers
ordered, the present wrapped,
and the card written and sealed, you'll not be needing the Clinton Cards site quite
so urgently. But for the rest of you, get clicking, because you can browse
through an extensive catalogue of cards and order online. If you're likely to forget
other occasions too, why not set up a personal reminder?

The Queen's Concerts
If you've ever looked at Buckingham Palace and thought, 'that lawn is big enough to hold
a festival on,' you're not alone. It seems Her Majesty has also been desperate to
recreate both Glastonbury and the
Proms
in her back garden, in order to celebrate her
Golden Jubilee in June. So if you want to be serenaded by Sir Paul McCartney,
Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, and Sir Elton John (no commoners there, then), get your skates on and
register for the ballot before March 17th. Picks will be running a sweepstake on
how many times the press uses the phrase, "a right royal knees up," to describe the event.
