2000 AD
"Borag Thungg, Earthlets!" If this phrase means anything to you, then you're either fluent in Betelgeusian, or simply a big fan of classic British sci-fi comic, 2000 AD. For those not in-the-know, 2000 AD has been going for 25 years and is the home of famous futuristic lawman Judge Dredd. The editor is the green-skinned Mighty Thargg from Betelgeuse, and past favourite "Thrills" have included Strontium Dog, The Ballad of Halo Jones, Nemesis the Warlock, and the mighty Slaine. This site successfully emulates the style of the comic and offers (after registration) the opportunity to read some of the classic strips online. Straight back down to earth with this useful site from the good folks at Planet One Parent. The mission statement here is to provide single parents with a directory of useful resources to help them with the difficulties of a relationship breakdown. Information is presented clearly and it is very easy to find your way around the site. The legal section includes advice on finding a solicitor, with fact sheets on specific subjects like the proposed reform of co-habitation law. If you find yourself coping alone, you might want to visit Planet One Parent. Looking for something to do in Ireland? Fear not, for the creators of Entertainment Ireland may have a little something for you. This bright and breezy site has listings of everything from the latest Ash gig to the 12th Junior Dublin Film Festival (on now until 4th December). Elsewhere, you can find extensive information on console games, DVD releases, and cinema listings. We couldn't help but notice that some of the lisitngs were a bit buggy in certain Web browsers, but the sheer range of information on offer more than makes up for this glitch. This site gives a taster of what's on offer at Scotland's Highland Folk Museum, which offers a, "Walk through the material remains of 400 years of Highland life from clansman to crofter." The museum recently scooped the Scottish Museum of the Year Award and the site shows why this was obviously so well-deserved. Both museum sites at Kingussie and Newtonmore offer a range of activities and living history demonstratrations of what Highland life might have been like all those years ago. So if your idea of Highlanders is Christopher Lambert running around shouting, "There can be only one!" - think again. More history, this time of an esoteric nature, awaits you at Ancient Quest. This excellent site has articles about everything from the Crusaders of the Middle Ages, the Knights Templar, to the Rosicrucian movement, which dates back to the 1600s. There are further reading lists for just about every subject covered, and the site creators promise future articles covering the Green Man myth, chivlary, and the Crusades. If you like your history with a bit of mystery, then this may well be the site for you. |
