Irish Picks: January 2001

Welcome to Irish Picks for January! If you know of a site we should cover, don't be shy.
Just contact Irish Picks and one of our reviewers will check it out.

Roma

Want to taste some mouth-watering foods that will tickle your taste buds? Well look no further than Roma. Not only do they have an extensive range of pasta, rice, and complimentary products such as tomatoes, purees, Parmesan cheese and olive oil, but they have also launched organic varieties of these foods. Antonia the Roma Chef has some tasty recipes for you to try out, including menu of the month, so you can impress your friends and family. For the health fans there is nutritional information to digest. There is also a kid's page, where children can play, draw, and cook some easy peasy fun food from Roma. And if you ever wondered how pasta is made take the Roma tour and wonder no more.

Finbarr Bears

We all love our Teddies, but if you are looking for that unique collector Teddy bear you will find it here. Finbarr bears are handmade by Frauke Osterloh, who lives in the southwest of Ireland. These beautifully crafted bears come with their own individual Irish name and birth certificate (how gorgeous is that). There is a wonderful photo gallery of the Finbarr bears and you can see how they are made. Shops where these handsome bears are available are listed on the website.

Just the Facts

Just the Facts is a schools information project designed to give children a fuller understanding of the developing child. It explores the first nine months of the developing fetus, combining factual information with wonderful graphics and video clips. You can even listen to the baby's heartbeat at different stages in the womb. This site is aimed at teachers for educational purposes and offers literature and presentations for schools. It is also a great resource for parents and expectant mothers.

Irish Knowledge

Whether you are a student, a researcher or just interested in Irish history, literature or culture, this site may help enhance those trips to the library. IrishKnowledge selects and organizes web pages, articles, and reviews into 18 categories ranging from Ireland's political and economic history to literature, fine art and archaeology. Although there is no keyword search facility at present, it is easy to navigate through the categories and is definitely worth a look.

Ireland 2001

If you are planning a 2001 holiday in Ireland, this site will help make it easier. There is information on Aer Lingus flights from different locations in America, so you get a taste of Ireland before you get there. They offer a comprehensive range of escorted and specialised tours, self drive vacations, and golfing holidays, so you can experience the best Ireland has to offer. While this site is intended for people visiting the Emerald Isle from abroad, don't despair if you're a native. There are links to tour operators within Ireland and the Irish and Northern Ireland Tourist Boards providing lots of great information and ideas for organising your next holiday at home.
