Political Links
As Douglas Adams observed, we never get the hang of Thursdays, which makes it a bad day for elections. This site is determined to help you through the big decision, with lists and biographies of sitting MPs and candidates, news, and government agencies, as well as info about bills, members of the Lords, the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly. You'll be disappointed to hear there's no dancing Anne Widdecombe though. Blair might be a little horse, but he's available here to answer your questions on everything from the fate of the pound to whether Ken Livingstone will ever find a nice girl and settle down. Of course, he has more important things to do at the moment (like dragging his deputy away from egg-wielding punters), so Kiwilogic and Digital Ape have provided a 'Lingubot' to answer questions, and generally prance and whinny like the real thing. Do you ever wonder who is running the country when all the politicians are out campaigning? No one? This site puts forward the idea that voters should have the option of picking no one as an expression of rejection of all the candidates (or perhaps because they think no one would do a better job!). Aside from pictures of the good sister herself and her habitual friends, this is serious stuff, and puts forward a possible solution to the apathy of voters and the negativity of parties. If you prefer your political news a little more laugh-leaning, you might want to check out this, "The news shepherd for news sheep", with its report that the election is part of a summer ratings war. In other news, you can learn about the first American to grasp irony, and the French campaign for a 35 hour striking week. One of many of its kind, yes, but well written and with a bit of Brit bite. Ah, the iron leadership of Maggie, the golf n' gin skillz of Dennis, and the desert exploration of Mark - all master Thatchers in their own way, but they have nothing on these guys. It's great to see a site about members of a trade not renowned for its internet savvy - the roof thatchers. Master Thatchers have worked around the world on projects including TV and film sets, The Globe Theatre, and the Chelsea Flower Show (you might say they've reached the ceiling of their profession), and the highlights can be seen here in all their glory.
