Cadbury's Creme Egg
The Picks team ventured down to the shops the other day to stock up on monitor wipes and hangover remedies. We were greeted by an enticing array of chocolate eggs, some with free mugs, and others with 'cut out and keep' space games. Telling ourselves we'd not be allowed such extravagant treats until Easter, we took solace in this creamy dream of a site instead. Okay, so to access most of the site you'll have to register - but once you're in, you'll be glad you did. Inside, you'll find a virtual theme park with a dazzling array of online games zones including 'Waterworld' and 'Spooksville'. We particularly enjoyed getting all the questions wrong in the shark game so we could see how the finned beasties eat theirs. We're no strangers to the written word here at Picks Central, but we were ever so impressed by the perceptive prose offered at Cool-Reads. This children's book review site is written, "For 10-15 year old readers by 10-15 year old reviewers." The reviews are short and sharp, and the site also offers a cool links section, and more information about kid critics Tim and Chris Cross. You'll find it easy to navigate the site, with the reviews arranged by genre, and if you have something specific in mind there's a search function too. The burning question, however, must be, "What did they think of Harry Potter?" Well, it would appear the dynamic duo are really rather fond of their Philosopher's Stone. Now then, if you've lost your mojo recently, this one will big you up no end. This is, of course, the online version of the popular music mag which is more for prog rockers than hip hoppers. It makes for a cracking read, and we really enjoyed the pee-taking spoof interview with Creme Brulee's Les McQueen from The League of Gentlemen, who reveals that the highlight of his career was taking a leak next to Wakeman. Joking aside, the Mojo guys have lots more to offer music fans with features, archives, a crossword, and classifieds for serious vinyl junkies. If you're one of those people who got called 'ginger nut' at school, then you'll be into this online vindication of redhead rights. You can find out who was voted 'Redhead of the Year' and view a gallery of tons of famous flame-haired celebrities. Redheads UK takes a more aggressive stance on 'redism' and aims to combat predjudice against redheads. This site suggests the possibilities for a Parliamentary Bill on rights for the redheaded, and offers shared experiences of painful 'carrot-top' taunts. If all that picking has left you worn out, why not relax in the luxurious soapy bubbles of the Imperial Leather site? It's a bit of a slow loader, this one, but once you've managed to work up a lather you'll be in for plenty of good clean fun. There's a 'lathercam', games section, and tubfulls of information on the sweet smelling soapy substance which isn't leathery at all. The little pop-up windows can choke your browser though, so be prepared for a little wrinkling while you soak.
