Picks of the Week: 26th February 2001

Greetings, Picks peepers, and welcome to our rundown of the movers and shakers in the wild world of Web. This week, we're checking out some of the sites that quite literally have feet a-tappin' and hands a-clappin' in the week of the Brits.

Named after the Beastie Boy's trainer finding retainer, and hailing from lovely Hartlepool, Sneaker Pimps are preparing to release a new album, and this site dedicated to the purveyors of weird beats and sultry vocals is just the ticket to whet your appetite, with archives of articles, FAQs, band history, and more to come. You'll have to go to the official site for images of the band, though.

Jools Holland, pianist, TV presenter, and New Year's Hootenany host, is lucky enough to be the subject of this quality site, with biographical information, up-to-date news (impressively, for a fan site), and pictures aplenty. The information is provided by the aptly named Jools Groovy News Club, and covers everything from Squeeze to The Tube to his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.

News, reviews, artist microsites, and streaming music and video are on offer at PlayLouder. The style is generally indie rock, with gig (provided by the Midweeker) and club (that's right, Weekender) reviews aplenty. There's also music to buy in electronic form, and (amazingly) it's from musicians you've heard of, like Prodigy and PJ Harvey.

If you prefer to get your musical fix in the flesh, Mean Fiddler might well be the people to deliver it. Their site is a nicely put together rundown of their impressive list of venues (like The Forum, Astoria, and Jazz Cafe) and festival involvement (including Fleadh, Homelands, and Reading), with the online booking and news you'd expect, and plenty of pleasing bleeps and boings for your speakers.

Picture the scene: you're on your way home from the vet, and your newly seen-to pooch is gazing reproachfully up at you from his basket. You see the new Napalm Death boxed set that you've been looking for, but can't carry it and Rover back to base at the same time. Well, those clever people at Sholley are way ahead of you. They've devised the Petmobil, for carrying pets in trolleys. You can even get a leopard skin lining for extra Rock n' Roll cachet!
