World Nettle Eating Championships 2000 Euro 2000 may be rapidly approaching, but there's only one tournament we've got our eyes on right now - the World Nettle Eating Championships 2000. This is being held on the weekend of June 17th at The Bottle Inn, Marshwood, Dorset. The site announces proudly that this year's winner will be in the Guinness Book of Records, after all, 1999's winner, Terry "Bluey" Hunt, consumed thirty-three feet of nettles, so that's the target this year. Conveniently enough, the event is being sponsored by Ben & Jerry's ice cream. That should help provide some relief. We're not quite sure what Fowlerism is really about. All we know is that it's devoted to the "parallel monsterized world of Pete Fowler"... we shan't argue with that. You'll need the Flash plugin to enjoy the site, and it boasts some great design ideas. In one place, you just hover your mouse over some eyes and bizarre figures move across the screen, accompanied by some cool sounds. Our favourite part of the site though is the Make a Monster section where you get to... well... make a monster. Funplanet is a straightforward concept dedicated to just one thing: fun. The games are small java applets, all the more enjoyable due to their simplicity and quick loading times. Whether it be tetris clones, snake, or breakout (we particularly enjoyed Skategirl), these little games should keep you amused for a bit. There's quizzes too to take part in, a flourishing chat community (mainly filled with Scandinavians when we checked) and the opportunity to win prizes, including David Beckham's boots, God forbid. This is an online encyclopaedia of contemporary British radio comedy. 100% unofficial it may be, but it is incredibly detailed, covering all aspects of broadcast comedy in the eighties and nineties, from Week Ending to The League of Gentlemen. There's masses of information on the shows that were popular, many of which we're certain you have probably never even heard of. The TV Theft, Radio Rip-Off section lists those shows that have become popular once they became television shows, and there's a huge article explaining the history of contemporary radio comedy. No pictures, massive amounts of content, which is not a bad thing. Just like radio, the images should be in your mind.
