Irish Picks - Scottish Picks

Picks of the Week: October 15th

What makes a Yahoo! UK & Ireland Pick of the Week? Sometimes it's a site that makes us laugh, sometimes it's one that's being talked about, other times it's because they're quirky, useful or just plain interesting. If you have any suggestions for cool sites to be included in a future Picks of the Week, why not send us an email? If you only want to view the list of this week's picks, click here.

"'ere, Keith! Have you seen the price of these marshmallows!" may not be a clarion cry oft heard in your local cornershop, but then you obviously don't live on Stella Street - where the shop is run by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. A corner of surburbia where stars such as Michael Caine, David Bowie, Joe Pesci and, er, John Hurt all live, Stella Street is a TV programme and is the comedy brainchild of impressionists Phil Cornwell & John Sessions. Currently repeating on BBC2 (Monday nights 9.50) they've just finished filming the third series and you can find all about it at this comprehensive site.

The Labour Party faces a large dilemma at the moment and for a change it doesn't involve Peter Mandelson - they have to put forward a candidate to stand for Mayor of London. The Picks team, being web obsessed, have decided that the vote should be made on the strength of their websites. We took a look at a couple....

Trevor Philips - the journalist and broadcaster should really know better than to have produced this website. Choosing to open his site with a splash screen comprising a Flash movie with annoying tune, things go from bad to worse with his index page opting for the never popular light blue and pink text on a yellow background colour scheme. A quick clean up of the HTML would do wonders for this site - it's still not too late!

In the red corner - Ken Livingstone. Regardless of his politics, Ken seems to have come up trumps webwise. A very clean, stylish design (despite the mug shot of Ken on the home page!) wins the day. The news is up to date, the navigation is clear. The web is a perfect medium for communicating your message, whether it is political, professional or personal and the Livingstone camp have scored a large majority in the web vote.

The Brits have a reputation, perhaps undeserved, for behaving badly abroad, but this time it's not holidaymakers but artists who are causing the ruckus. The Sensation exhibition from the Saatchi Collection in New York caused a storm due to the work of the young, British artists on display. The Mayor of New York was so disgusted he tried to ban it - and he hadn't even seen it. Make your own mind up with an online sneaky peek courtesy of this site set up by the Thin White duke himself, David Bowie.

Rounding off, some harmless fun for those of you caught in the right demographic in the late 70's early 80's and were transfixed by the bri-nylon allure of Wonder Woman on TV. The Wonder Woman in Action site brings you some animations of Wonder Woman twirling away - if only she was real!
