When it comes to crime-busting, the Internet can help. The Crimestoppers site from IC24 (Mirror Group) aims to do just that, and hopes to make the country a safer place. "Fighting crime isn't just down to the government and police," says Home Secretary Jack Straw, "it's a partnership that requires the support of the entire population." The Crimestoppers site allows you to browse various regions of the country to see if you can help with unsolved crimes. There is a free number to call if you have any information, as well as advice on crime prevention and links to other useful sites.
Howletts & Port Lympne Wild Animal Park has just hit the Internet in fine style. It has been in the news mainly for its six live webcams - which are worth visiting the site for alone - where you can control a camera watching tigers, elephants or gorillas, that's if you don't mind waiting in a queue. But there's also a lot of other information here about the animals and the Park's dedication to conservation. You can also send an animal postcard to a friend or buy some cute merchandise.
Remaining on an animal theme, Pets Pyjamas is a site dedicated to our little furry domestic friends. Colourful and fun, Pets Pyjamas gives you the opportunity to purchase all manner of pet goods on line from dog food to cat collars. But there's more - the PetMags section offers "a wealth of pet-related facts" including a jargon-busting guide to vet terms, top tips for pet owners and breeder's news. But it doesn't stop there: there's a community for pet lovers where you can chat to like-minded users, and sevices such as vets, holidays and pet safety.
There's a new music site on the Internet called Clickmusic, boldly claiming to be "the UK's only independent online music guide". But still, it's got a lot of good content. The Chart section lists many of the UK charts, with links to the bands' sites. The News sections pulls up the headlines from a variety of sources, and the reviews present a 'digest' of what the media is saying about new releases, as well as allowing users to leave their own votes. So mainly it's acting as a kind of 'portal', offering its readers the opportunity to explore the Web, but the links are good and Clickmusic should become a handy resource to any music lover.
