What is a category?
A category within the directory is just a subject heading. For example, Entertainment is a category as Music is a sub-category within the Entertainment category. And, hence, 'Entertainment/Music/Artists' would be the category to place a site about the Beatles or Oasis.
What is a VALID category for submitting an add request?
A completely valid Yahoo! UK & Ireland category is a full path from the top of the directory. For example, Entertainment/Music/Artists would be the proper category for a new page about the Beatles. If you get an error that the category you've tried to add to is "a meta level category" or is "not a valid Yahoo category," please refer to our list of reserved categories for more detailed information.
Can I be listed in multiple places in Yahoo!?
Yes, please put your suggestions for additional categories in the "Additional Categories" box. However, be aware that we try to limit the number of links to the same site, and as with your title and comments, we reserve final editorial licence as to the placement(s) of your site.
If I am creating a web site, can I add a link to Yahoo! UK & Ireland?
YES! If you have a wonderful, new, exciting web page to add to the Internet world, we would love it if you listed it here.
If I find a cool site to add to Yahoo!, what do I do?
First of all, please do a search to see if the site is already in our database. If you do not find it, then go ahead and suggest it!
Do I need a url to be added to Yahoo!? Would an e-mail address do?
Yes, the address of the homepage (the Uniform Resource Locator) is the only way for us to give you a link on Yahoo! UK & Ireland.
Does it cost anything to add?
No, it costs absolutely nothing for you to add to the service, just a little bit of your time and effort.
What information do you need to add a site?

Title - This is the name that will appear in Yahoo! UK & Ireland.
URL - Usually starts with http://.

Categories - Where it will appear in Yahoo.

Comment - It should be about a line or two. It should describe what is on the page.
Can I add keywords?
The Yahoo! UK & Ireland search works by searching for 'keywords' contained in the URL, the name (title) of the listing, and the comment field. In the add form, the comments provided by you are used as a description of the site. We try to keep comments to about a sentence or two.
Can I create new categories?
If you think there should be a new category for your page, go to the page where you think a new category should be added and click on Add. Put your suggestion for a new category in the "Additional Categories" box.
How long do you keep links?
Forever! or until the link itself is discontinued.

Important notes:
- Keep in mind that you cannot add your site to the top level or any "reserved" categories. Please consult our list of reserved categories for further explanation.
- Any business must be placed in a Business and Economy category.
- In the interest of fairness, listings under the Companies and Products and Services categories will be listed in alphabetical order by the company or product name.
- Please confine all business additions to TWO categories. Pick the categories that are the most valid choices. All others will be ignored.
- Personal Home pages must go in the Society & Culture/People category.
- If your site is regionally specific, please add it to the respective Regional information category.
- Comments should be kept to 15-20 words.
- There is no charge for listing your site. Please bear in mind it can take a few months to get listed. We receive thousands of submissions and try our hardest to review as many as we can.
Instructions for adding your site:
1. Start by browsing the Yahoo! database and find the category where you would like your listing to appear. If you cannot find an appropriate category, please use the search facility to find a category with comparable information and try adding to that category. If you believe that your site demands a new category, submit the site to the closest related category and be sure to fill in your proposed new category in the Additional Categories field. We will review the site and your new category proposal, but keep in mind that we will place you where we think would be the most beneficial to Yahoo! UK & Ireland users.
2. Once you've selected the category to submit to, click on the Suggest a Site link at the bottom of the page for that category. This will bring up the preformatted submission form. The category information should already be filled in for you in the category box. Please do not type in the category. Leave the category listed in the category box as shown.
3. Fill out the rest of the form. Make sure to fill in ALL of the fields for completeness.
4. Make sure that the Comments field consists of information about the site you are adding. This comment will be attached to your link on Yahoo! UK & Ireland and will be viewable to all users. Please keep comments to one or two lines (15-20 words).
5. Additional categories are allowed, but the entry might not be added to all requested categories (see above note concerning businesses). We try to limit each site to two or three categories. Again, entries might not be added to all requested categories.
6. If all goes well, you should receive confirmation of your submission.
