What is broadband?

Very simply, broadband is a high-speed connection to the internet that is 'always on'. Broadband is faster than a standard dial-up, enabling you to view web content faster and download files more quickly. It's called broadband because it has a much larger capacity to receive and send data.

Why should I consider getting broadband?

Basically, the sheer speed and power of BT Yahoo! Broadband makes communication easier than ever before and helps you make the most of everything the internet has to offer. You can send email with up to 10 attachments, send and receive photos and film clips, chat online with Instant Messenger and have a lot more fun!

Why have BT and Yahoo! come together to offer broadband?

By combining the communications expertise of BT and the online innovation of Yahoo!, we've been able to create an internet service that's second to none. And greater reliability with more customer-friendly features is at the heart of it all. To us, it's simply the internet the way it should be. Brought to you by two of the most trusted sources in the UK.

Why should I choose BT Yahoo! Broadband?

Unlike other broadband services, BT Yahoo! Broadband delivers all the features internet surfers want - all for one set monthly price with no hidden extras or surprises. From faster access at up to 10x the speed of dial-up to improved security, easier customisation to extra accounts for family members, BT Yahoo! Broadband provides a complete package that's totally easy to use. So you can enjoy a far better internet experience time after time.

Do all service providers offer broadband at the same speed?

Certain service providers offer broadband access at different speeds, such as only up to 3x faster than dial-up. That's not nearly as fast at BT Yahoo! Broadband, which delivers the internet at a speed up to 10x faster than dial-up. You'll notice the difference in everything from how fast web pages appear to how quickly you can download email attachments and video clips. So, be sure to read the fine print before you buy.

What happens after I sign up for BT Yahoo! Broadband?

Upon placing your order, we'll mutually agree on a date for your telephone line to be upgraded to broadband. This date is known as your 'activation date' and is usually around seven working days from the date you place your order. Within these seven days, we'll remotely test your line to ensure it can support broadband and we'll let you know the results via email. You'll then receive your full Welcome Pack, and your billing will start one day after the activation of your broadband line has taken place. Please note that on your activation date, your line will be ready for broadband use from 6pm onwards.

Do I need a second phone line for BT Yahoo! Broadband?

No. BT Yahoo! Broadband connects through your existing phone line. That means you can talk on the phone while you surf, and callers will never hear a busy signal when they're trying to reach you.

Does an engineer need to visit my home?

No. Everything you need to connect to BT Yahoo! Broadband will arrive in a special Welcome Pack. Just follow the simple step-by-step instructions, and you'll be online in no time.

If I already have a Yahoo! email address, will it change when I sign up to BT Yahoo! Broadband?
