Yahoo! Travel announces revolutionary new flexible holiday search technology
Yahoo! Travel has developed a new style of holiday search. The new search technology was developed in conjunction with Kelkoo, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yahoo! and uses " assisted filtering " to enable users to refine their search using a series of different search criteria to find a holiday which meets their exact requirements. The new search technology has now been integrated into the Holidays section of Yahoo! Travel in the UK following the success of the initial integration on Ski and Snow section of Yahoo! Travel.
The new Holiday search technology uses a combination of the more traditional drop-down search box approach and the new " asssisted filtering " technology to offer a highly sophisticated and targeted search. It will offer a flexible mechanism that will initially keep the search broad before drilling down to specific details.
Tim Frankcom, European General Manager of Yahoo! Travel, commented: " This search style is designed to offer the flexibilty to address the needs of all users from those who know they have a free week in a particular month and want to find what options are available to them, to those who know exactly where they want to go and when."
The first phase of the search will be based on drop-down search options to allow the user to view a broad range of relevant holiday results. Initial drop-down selections include:
- Month of departure
- Destination country
- Duration
- City of Departure
- Board Basis
The user can select as many of these options as they wish.
From here they will be taken to a results page where they can see all the available options and can then use the " assisted filtering " to refine these offers in stages to locate available offers which meet their precise requirements.
Assisted filtering refinement options include:
- Destination - continent then country
- Duration
- Exact date of departure
- Departure city and then airport
- Type of holiday - sun, city break...
- Accommodation type - Apartment, Hotel...
- Board Basis - full, half, self catering..
- Price
Search options are automatically and instantaneously updated to ensure that users are only presented with relevant search filters.
