YAHOO! SEARCH INTRODUCES SUBSCRIPTIONS BETA

Yahoo! Search today announces the beta release of Yahoo! Search Subscriptions, providing internet users with easy access to multiple public and subscription online content sources from a single search engine. Yahoo! Search is the first major search engine to offer the ability to search for personal subscription content found in the "deep web." The deep web includes millions of access-restricted Web sites containing content that search engines typically cannot access.

The new product (available now at uk.search.yahoo.com/subscriptions and uk.search.yahoo.com) is a pilot programme from Yahoo! Search that offers a more comprehensive and personalised search experience by allowing users the capability to access trusted subscription content.

Initial content providers include Financial Times content from FT.com, the Wall Street Journal Online, Forrester Research Inc, New England Journal of Medicine, ConsumerReports.org, thestreet.com and the IEEE. Additionally, content from Factiva, LexisNexis AlaCarte!™ pay-as-you-go, Thomson Gale and ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) will be included in the coming weeks.

"Yahoo! Search Subscriptions is part of our vision to make Yahoo! Search the front door to content, including both the public and deep web, by working with the best content providers. We will make Yahoo! Search the only place consumers go for information, making it a one-stop place for people to find and use the content they care about," said Salim Mitha, Director Yahoo! Search UK and Ireland.
In addition to improving the Yahoo! Search experience for users, Yahoo! Search Subscriptions increases the value of publishers' subscription programmes by making their content more readily searchable by the Yahoo! audience of 372 million unique users*. This service provides a new content distribution channel that can help publishers achieve business objectives.
"Yahoo! Search Subscriptions benefits our online subscribers by providing a direct channel to our world leading business, financial, geopolitical news and analysis content through a world renowned search engine," said Alex Withers, Director of FT.com, Americas. "Partnering with Yahoo! makes perfect sense for publishers looking to provide users with a more well rounded search experience."
Yahoo! Search Subscriptions follows fast on the heels of recent Yahoo! Search developments providing access to both Creative Commons and Wikipedia content.
