PRODUCT NEWS - Yahoo! Mail
Today Yahoo! Mail announces a public beta of an innovative, new e-mail photo-sharing feature called PhotoMail. Available free, PhotoMail greatly simplifies the e-mail photo-sharing experience by allowing people to insert up to 300 photos into the body of an email without the images utilising attachment size limits and inbox storage space. The new PhotoMail feature tightly integrates Yahoo! Mail with both Yahoo! Image Search and Yahoo! Photos, the No1 online photos site in the world.
PhotoMail lets users drag and drop images from anywhere on their computer, Yahoo! Photos, and Yahoo! Image Search and insert them as 'thumbnail' previews into a Yahoo! Mail message. When a PhotoMail message is sent, the images are automatically stored in the sender's free Yahoo! Photos account and the pictures appear as a thumbnail in the e-mail, making it easier for the recipient to view them, as there are no large attachments to open.
Users can personalise their PhotoMail messages by adding captions and borders to the pictures and adjusting the file size and quality of the photos. The full resolution versions of the photos can be accessed with one click and are stored in a Yahoo! Photos album where there are additional options for editing and sharing. Anyone can enjoy the PhotoMail beta by visiting http://uk.photomail.mail.yahoo.com.
"PhotoMail is another example of Yahoo's commitment to provide users with a free, truly integrated and innovative communications experience." Said Mark Helvadjian, Senior Product Manager for Communications, Yahoo! UK & Ireland. "You can click and drag hundreds of holiday snaps straight into one email and it doesn't involve sending large email attachments. Plus it's easy and free."
Further Yahoo! Mail News:
§ Even more languages - From June, Yahoo! Mail will be available in more languages than any other Web-based e-mail provider. As part of Yahoo!'s commitment to reaching more users in more countries, Yahoo! Mail has added localised sites for the South East Asia and Eastern Europe markets in six additional languages. With this expansion, Yahoo! Mail will be available on 34 localised sites worldwide and offered in 21 languages.
§ Fighting e-mail forgery and phishing scams - As part of Yahoo! Mail's ongoing efforts to provide users with a safer e-mail experience, DomainKeys, Yahoo!'s own e-mail authentication technology has been implemented to increase consumer protection from spam, e-mail forgery and phishing scams. Effective now, Yahoo! Mail has added a tag under the "From" line of e-mail messages based on DomainKeys technology, providing additional information to consumers about the origin of the e-mails they receive. The DomainKeys Indicator appears as a subtle line of grey text, confirming that the message was or was not sent by the expected domain. More information on DomainKeys is available at http://uk.antispam.yahoo.com/domainkeys
