London. - May 4th, 2005 - Yahoo! Europe has today announced the permanent appointment of Jon Gisby as Managing Director of Yahoo! UK & Ireland and Vice President of Media - Europe. Jon Gisby has been acting MD of Yahoo! UK & Ireland since December 2004 and this appointment is effective immediately.

In addition to the responsibility of Managing Director of the UK & Ireland business, Jon will take on the newly-created pan-European role of Vice President - Media, with overall responsibility for Yahoo!'s content and product innovation. The creation of the new role reflects Yahoo!'s commitment to introducing the next generation of broadband programming, personal publishing, customisation and community services to internet consumers across Europe. As part of this effort, Jon's team will be seeking the best content and advertising partners to work with across Europe and drawing on the global resources of one of the world's largest online media companies.

Prior to joining Yahoo! in 2004, Jon worked at Freeserve, now Wanadoo, from 1999 as the Director of Strategy and New Business, moving on to become the Managing Director of icircle.com and finally the Managing Director of Portals in 2002. He began his career in strategy consulting with the MAC Group and Gemini Consulting before moving on to help advise the BBC on its overall digital strategy in the late nineties.
