Yahoo! Expands Marketing Team Across Europe

 

 

Yahoo! Europe today announces that it is expanding its European marketing team in order to fully support Yahoo! Europe's business objectives and product development plans for 2003 and beyond.

The expansion of the European marketing team reflects Yahoo!'s commitment to extending its range of consumer facing premium services and products, building its capabilities in direct marketing and ensuring that it has the most creative advertising in the industry.

Yahoo!'s central European marketing team will now be led by Lindsay Biggart, former Marketing Director of Yahoo! UK & Ireland, who has been promoted to Director of Marketing for Yahoo! Europe. Lindsay will assume overall responsibility for Yahoo!'s marketing strategy across Europe and oversee all advertising, branding, direct, trade and product marketing. Lindsay will report to Martina King, MD of Country Operations for Yahoo! Europe.

The core marketing service business remains a key driver of Yahoo!'s revenues and a priority focus for the marketing team. Giulio Brunini, Yahoo! Italy's current Marketing Director will be transferred to London to take up the newly created Head of Marketing Solutions role focusing on driving the European trade marketing strategy.

Yahoo! Europe will establish a Centre of Excellence for Online and Direct Marketing based in London, and aims to replicate the success that the US Yahoo! business has achieved in diversifying revenue streams through the development and marketing of premium services to Yahoo!'s existing audience base. This central team will be charged with promoting consumer pay products to support both the business unit and country marketers to improve their knowledge of the Yahoo! user base, customer acquisition, cross-sell, loyalty and retention.

Chieu Cao, who recently joined Yahoo! from Amazon.co.uk, will join this central team as an Online Marketing Strategist. He will report to the to be appointed, Head Of Online and Direct Marketing who will build the central online and direct marketing function. Both the Head of Online and Direct Marketing and Head of Marketing Solutions will report to Lindsay Biggart and form the core central marketing team for Europe.

The central marketing team will work closely with recently appointed specialist business unit marketers and local country Marketing Directors, in order to deliver cohesive, results based marketing strategies across Yahoo!'s European network.

The local country marketing teams continue to be play a pivotal role in Yahoo!'s marketing function, responsible for planning and executing local marketing plans. Current European Marketing Manager, Yonca Dervisoglu has been promoted to Director of Marketing for Yahoo! UK & Ireland, and will report to Fru Hazlitt, MD of Yahoo! UK & Ireland.

The key business units at Yahoo! have recently appointed senior marketers, who are responsible for driving the product marketing strategy across Europe. John Webb, previously Yahoo! UK & Ireland's Marketing Manager, has been appointed Head of Marketing for Yahoo! Europe's Consumer and Network Services Business, which includes responsibility for Mail, Messenger, Chat, Groups and Yahoo! Plus (UK & Ireland). Chad Wollen, previously an associate director at the Henley Centre, has been appointed Head of Marketing for Yahoo! Mobile, responsible for the integration of Mobile Value Added Services across Yahoo!'s European network. Yahoo! Europe is in the process of recruiting a senior marketer to lead marketing within the Search business unit.

Chieu works to optimise the online direct marketing of all Yahoo! products and services on and off our network He plays a key role in increasing user retention and in promoting new Yahoo! premium services. Prior to joining Yahoo!, Chieu was the online advertising manager for amazon.co.uk where he managed Amazon's presence on sites such as MSN, AOL and Google.

Giulio Brunini is Head of European Marketing Solutions and will drive pan-European trade marketing initiatives as well as working closely with the local country marketing and sales teams to ensure the successful implementation of local trade marketing initiatives. In his previous role as Marketing Director for Yahoo! Italia, Giulio was responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of marketing the Yahoo! brand, its products and trade positioning in Italy. Prior to joining Yahoo! in April 2000, Giulio was Account Director at Saatchi & Saatchi, where he worked on global brands like Oil of Olaz (beauty care), Ariel (Proctor & Gamble) and Old Spice (deodorants).

Yonca Dervisoglu, previously Marketing Manager for Yahoo! Europe, has been appointed Marketing Director of Yahoo! UK & Ireland. Prior to joining Yahoo! in February 2002, Yonca spent almost ten years in various marketing roles within Unilever based in London and Unilever Turkey, most recently as European Innovations Manager responsible for devising the strategy of and managing a portfolio of innovations projects for the European Clothes Care Business of Unilever.

John Webb is Head of Marketing for Yahoo! Europe Consumer & Network Services with responsibility for the key product areas including Mail, Messenger, Chat and GeoCities across the European network. John joined Yahoo! UK & Ireland in October 2000 as Marketing Manager with 8 years expertise in the online and FMCG industries. Before joining Yahoo! John was Senior Brand Manager at H.J.Heinz Ltd where he had responsibility for renowned brands as Heinz Baked Beans and Heinz Spaghetti. Prior to this he managed the Jammie Dodgers brand at Burton's Biscuits and a portfolio of brands at Nestle.

Chad Wollen is Head of Marketing and Strategy for Yahoo! Mobile, responsible for the integration of Mobile Value Added Services across Yahoo!'s European network. Prior to joining Yahoo!, Chad was an Associate Director of the Henley Centre, where he provided both research and marketing consultancy to a wide range of media and technology partners. During his time at the Henley Centre, he was also responsible for forecasting the demand for 3G mobile services and assessing the market for triple play broadband consumer services.
