YAHOO! SENDS SPAMŽ BACK TO THE CAN
Yahoo! UK & Ireland has teamed up with the Hormel Foods Corporation, the manufacturers of SPAMŽ chopped pork and ham, the spiced pork meat product immortalised by Monty Python, to reclaim it from the world of IT jargon. The new alliance celebrates the launch of Yahoo! Mail's new enhanced SpamGuard technology and improved junk filter product, to coincide with SPAMŽ Appreciation Week and aims to drive spam out of the inbox and put SPAMŽ the food icon back on the dining room table where it belongs.
Yahoo! UK & Ireland is confident that its latest version of its industry leading SpamGuard technology will be so successful that unwanted emails, referred to in the IT world as spam, and estimated to cost businesses worldwide over Ł12 billion annually , will become less of a daily hindrance, allowing the Hormel Foods Corporation to regain rightful ownership of the trademark for their iconic quality chopped pork and ham product.
Yahoo! Dump the Junk Mail Award In support of the Yahoo! and SPAMŽ alliance, Yahoo! UK & Ireland will launch a Dump the Junk Campaign, to find the UK's biggest Junkmailer. Yahoo! is encouraging people to name and shame friends and colleagues who are guilty of forwarding junk emails and therefore perpetuating the frustrating cycle of internet junk mail. Those who wish to nominate people should email details of the culprit to dumpthejunkaward@yahoo.co.uk. The winner will be announced in the coming months and banished to a Yahoo! junk mail boot camp to be educated on email etiquette.
Yahoo! Mail's award winning SpamGuard product, free with all Yahoo! Mail accounts, is the most sophisticated protection available with free email. Currently, around 5 million junk emails are sent everyday2. However, SPAMŽ the branded food product, receives a much more positive response with more than 141 million cans of SPAMä chopped ham and pork being sold worldwide each year - hence the demand and popularity of National SPAMŽ Appreciation Week.
Yahoo! Mail SpamGuard expert, Brian Fitzgerald, explains: "It's great to be launching our enhanced SpamGuard technology during SPAMŽ Appreciation Week. We aim to ensure that spam email is no longer a problem for Internet users so that SPAMŽ the food icon can truly be appreciated as Hormel Foods Corporation intended. Of course, there will always be email spam and email spammers in abundance, but we have a global team dedicated to combating junk mail and preventing it from reaching our users' inboxes."
