London, United Kingdom - August 29th 2002 -- Yahoo! Europe, a leading global Internet company, today announces the appointment of Juha Varelius as vice president and managing director of Yahoo! Mobile in Europe.

Most recently, Juha Varelius served as chief executive officer and president of Sonera zed, a leading provider of entertainment, communications and information services for mobile devices, and as a member of Sonera's executive management team and head of its products and services layer. Yahoo! recently acquired a 15 percent share in Sonera zed and entered into a commercial agreement in Europe.

In his new role at Yahoo!, Juha will continue to be responsible for the ongoing operations of zed and to serve as its CEO and president. In addition, he will assume responsibility within Yahoo! Europe for the strategic development and implementation of mobile initiatives. Juha will report to Mark Opzoomer, regional vice president and managing director of Yahoo! Europe. He will be based in London and divide his time between Yahoo!'s European head office in London and zed's headquarters in Finland.

Juha joined Sonera in 1993 where he held several different key areas of responsibility including vice president of its TV unit (1995) and senior vice president of the media communications unit (1998). Before joining Sonera, he worked for Tandy Finland OY and KPMG Wideri OY.
